When purple lights, smoke and funeral music fill the arena, you always knew it is time for wrestling superstar The Undertaker to take to the ring.

The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark William Calaway, has a number of signature moves. From his finishing moves - The Last Ride and The Choke slam - to his trademark moves throughout matches - including the Guillotine (putting a steel chair on his opponent‘s throat and slamming the chair to the ground) and Old School (walking the top rope, jumping off and clubbing his opponent’s back- tattoo-covered Mark never fails to thrill audiences.

Mark started wrestling in 1984 and his big break came when he won USWA Heavyweight and USWA Texas Heavyweight Championshop. Throughout his early career he used a variety of ring nicknames including The Commando, The Punisher and Master of Pain. He was involved with the National Wrestling Alliance (later known as World Championship Wrestling) and went by the name of Mean Mark Callous. After several high profile matches, he signed with the World Wresting Federation (WWF) and made his debut as The Undertaker in 1990.

Throughout the nineties, his popularity grew and grew, as did his talent. Between December 1991 and September 1993, he did not lose a single match - which holds the record for the longest undefeated streak of the decade.

Around 2000, both The Undertaker and the whole wrestling world got an image overhaul. As wrestling was changed to make it more realistic, Undertaker changed his image to than of an intimidating biker, first called ‘The American Bad Ass’ named after the Kid Rock song he adopted as his new entrance music. He later changed his music to Limp Bizkit’s hit Rollin. Fans reacted well to Mark’s image change, especially as it reflected his own personality better than his previous gimmick.

In 2003, The Undertaker adopted yet another image change. This time he became the Deadman Undertaker, which brought together elements of his Undertaker and American Bad Ass identities.

He’s now been with the WWF (now called the WWE) for over 15 years. During which he’s enjoyed multiple title reigns and has been undefeated through fourteen consecutive famous Wrestlemania events. As he’s been with the company for so long, he’s been dubbed its “ambassador”.

Off screen, Mark is one of five brothers. He studied Sports Management at Texas Wesleyan University. He married Jody Lynn, his first wife, in 1989 and they had a child together in 1994 before divorcing in 1999. Mark met his current wife, Sara at an autograph signing in Texas, fell in love and married her in 2000. He and his wife (who he‘s shown his affection for by painfully having her name tattooed on his throat), and their two daughters - Chasey (born 2002) and Gracie (born 2005), whose names are also tattooed on his neck.

He is a big fan of Harley-Davidsons, and collects the motorcycles. He loves heavy metal music like Guns N’ Roses, Black Sabbath and Metallica.
