The Tea Party Biography
Jeff Burrows (drums)
Stuart Chatwood (bass)
The trio decided to name the band after the infamous hash sessions of famous Beat Generation poets Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs. In 1991 they released their self-titled debut on an independent label. It was followed by the eclectic, Splendor Solis, which featured a fine blend of Eastern tunings and Western trends. 1995's exotic The Edges of Twilight features 31 musical instruments gathered from the band's travels around the world. The album received rave reviews and the Tea Party was added to 1995's Lollapalooza bill. They were rewarded with three Juno nominations and a Much Music Video Award.
On their latest release, Transmission, the Tea Party further expands the perimeters of their music. Percussionist Burrows uses a darabouka, a dumbek, pod shakers and a lead pipe to add velocity, while bassist Chatwood combines murky keyboards to his raucous bass lines.
