Shemar Moore Biography
Lea acerca de Shemar Moore en Espa?ol
Women just can't resist Shemar Moore. Not even the gorgeous Hally Berry and beautiful Toni Braxton who he previously dated.
The mixed-raced American actor and model is most famous for his role as sexy photographer Malcolm Winters in TV's "The Young and the Restless", which he played from 1994 to 2002 (and returned to shake up the show in 2004).
As a child, Shemar moved around the world with his mother – including Europe and the Persian Gulf - , before they eventually settled in Palo Alto, California in 1984. In 1988, he went to Santa Clara University, partly on an baseball scholarship, where he studied communications and theater arts. His stunning looks caught the attention of modeling agencies and although he had previously dismissed modeling work as “for sissies”, his attitude changed as he got older. "At 19, when tuition was a reality, I was like, okay, well maybe it's not for sissies,” Shemar recalls. “So I tried it and ended up doing it for five years," he adds.
This first thrusted Shemar into the limelight, with him appearing in ads in top magazines like "Gentleman's Quarterly" ("GQ"), "Mademoiselle", and fashion layouts for major department stores. Aswell as campaigns for Levi's, McDonalds, Miller Beer, and Colter Clothes.
His photos for "GQ" grabbed the interest of executives on the show "The Young and Restless" and they asked him to audition. Shemar hired an acting coach and worked intensively to prepare for it. His hard work paid off and he was offered the part of Malcolm Winters. He impressed viewers from his first appearance, resulting in him receiving two Daytime Emmy Nominations (in 1996 and 1997). He has also won five NAACP Image Awards and received a NAACP nomination in 2005.
With his stunning looks, he has also charmed his way into a number of movie roles including "Diary of a Mad Black Woman", "The Seat Filler", "The Brothers", "Butter", and "Motives". Plus TV appearances in "Criminal Minds", "Reversible Errors" (opposite Tom Selleckand William H. Macy), "Birds of Prey" and "How to Marry a Billionaire". He also worked his charisma and compelling personality to the max, presenting 1999's Miss USA Pageant and the weekly "Soul Train" show from 1999 until 2003.
The Los Angeles-based star – who cites his acting heroes as Sidney Poitier Anthony Hopkins Denzel Washington, Jodie Fosterand Robert De Niro - fills his spare time with traveling, sports and photography.
In the future, he hopes his acting career will grow with leading roles.
