Valentino was born Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Piero Filiberto Guglielmi in Castellaneta, Italy, to a French mother, Marie Berthe Gabrielle Barbin, and Giovanni Antonio Giuseppe Fidele Guglielmi, a veterinarian who died of malaria when Valentino was 11.
