Philip David Charles Collins was born on January 30, 1951 in the borough of Chiswick, London, England. His mother, a talent agent, enrolled young Phil in a stage school, where he studied acting and singing. He was one of the screaming fans in The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night (1964), and played the Artful Dodger in the London stage production of Oliver!.
