Paula DeAnda was born on November 3, 1989 in San Angelo, Texas. She got her feet wet singing at weddings, local parties and other functions in San Angelo before her family moved to the burgeoning Corpus Christi music scene in an attempt to help further her music career. It worked, because Paula ended up worked with various musicians and producers in the area. Eventually, Paula would cross paths with her future manager, Ed Ocanas of E.D.O. Entertainment. In 2005, Ed was able to attain a slot for Paula at the Corpus Christi Bayfest, where she opened for Nelly, Akon Frankie J, and Baby Bash Ocanas encouraged Paula to record a song “Doing Too Much,” which was cowritten with Baby Bash “Doing Too Much” started getting local airplay in early 2006 and it made enough noise in the southwest that it began to receive national airplay and eventually made its way onto the Billboard charts. Paula’s talent and hard work paid off around the same time as she managed to swing a live audition in front of Arista-founder, Clive Davis. In a remarkable coup, Paula found herself signed to the label on the spot. She also found herself on the up-and-up when her self-titled debut album was released in August, 2006. Certainly, Paula’s handlers have been looking to capitalize on her burgeoning fame and getting her in front of the camera is a solid way of doing it. As a result, Paula began her late-night talk-show rounds with an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. What self-respecting, young pop star doesn’t have aspirations to multitask? The kind of projects she’ll end up attached to is anybody’s guess. In a similar vein, in early 2006, Paula began exploring the idea of launching a cosmetic line, clothing line, and so on. Being a pop star is often just a thinly veiled euphemism for “branding” these days, such as Victoria Beckham and surely Paula’s agent will be pushing all of the aforementioned plans for the young siren.
