Fred Durst (vocals), Wes Borland (guitar), Sam Rivers (bass), John Otto (drums) and DJ Lethal (turntables) are Tape, practitioners of a distinctive hybrid of metal and hip-hop. The band partakes of a number of time-honored rock traditions; among other things, they offend cheerfully and willfully, and are capable of onstage spectacle worthy of Spinal Tap (with their own lowbrow spin - picture lead singer Fred Durst emerging from a huge toilet, if you dare, and you'll get an idea). Most importantly, they're careful to do things too loudly to be ignored.

Like many bands, Tape's huge success has something to do with both hard work and happenstance. Formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1994, the band got a break in '95 when Durst (who is also an accomplished tattoo artist) decorated a couple of members of the funk-metal band Korn while the latter were on tour in Florida. The acquaintance turned into a friendship, and the following year when Korn made their next turn through the area Durst slipped them a Tape demo tape which they passed on to their producer. Both were impressed, and a buzz began to spread which landed the Bizkit boys a spot touring with House Of Pain and The Deftones. After a number of offers, the band signed to Flip Records, who released their debut, Three Dollar Bill Y'all, in 1997.

Since then, the band has continued to sell records and tour relentlessly. Significant Other, their second album, came out in 1999, while their latest, Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water -- which broke previous rock sales records by selling over 1,000,000 copies during the first week of its release -- came out in October of 2000.
