Liev Schreiber was a highly respected stage and screen actor whose deep voice and serious countenance lent itself well to playing intense, dramatic roles. He came to prominence in the late 1990s after a long string of performances in indie features, and gained widespread notice as town loner and red herring Cotton Weary in Wes Craven’s “Scream” (1996) and its two sequels.
