Biography

Joni Mitchell was born Roberta Joan Anderson to Bill Anderson and Myrtle Anderson. Her mother was a teacher, and her father an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. When she was eleven years old, the family settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which Mitchell considers her hometown. At the age of nine, Mitchell contracted polio during a Canadian epidemic, but recovered after a stay in the hospital. It was during this time that she first became interested in singing. She...
