Chris Penn Biography

Chris Penn (1965-2006) was best known for his roles in the movies "Reservoir Dogs", "True Romance" and "Corky Romano". In movies, he excelled as the villain or working-class lout, and in comedy roles.

Although he didn't receive the same lead actor level of success as his older brother Oscar-winner Sean Penn, he became a familiar supporting actor who starred in over 50 movies during his career, possessing more than enough talent so he did not need to piggyback on Sean's success. Chris started acting at the age of 12 at the Loft Studio in Los Angeles when he received training from top acting coach Peggy Feury. His first movie role was in 1979's "Charlie and the Talking Buzzard", and his career developed with parts in Francis Ford Coppola’s youth drama "Rumble Fish" (1983) and the high school sports movie "All the Right Moves" with Tom Cruise. The successful dance musical "Footloose" (1984), his role as a villain in Clint Eastwood's western "Pale Rider" (1985), and "Close Range" (1986), in which he co-starred with his mother Eileen Ryan and brother, boosted his profile even further. But it was his performances in Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs", as Nice Guy Eddie, and "True Romance", as a drugs officer, which would prove to be his most memorable. Throughout the late nineties and early noughties, Chris continued to star in criminal-themed movies like 1996's "Mulholland Falls" and "The Funeral", and 1998's "One Tough Cop". He also made notable appearances in Jackie Chan's "Rush Hour" and the comedy "Starsky & Hutch". Chris lent his comedic talents to the 2001 sequel to "American Pie" as Stiffler's dad, but the scenes were later cut as they did not fit in with the rest of the film. Chris's projects were not just limited to the big screen. He appeared in "Law and Order: Criminal Intent", between 2004 and 2005, and voiced a character for popular video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas". He also starred in episodes of the hit TV shows "CSI: Miami", "Everwood" and "Will and Grace". In early 2006, tragedy struck when Chris was found dead in his Santa Monica home. The primary cause was said to be an enlarged heart. The drugs, valium, morphine, marijuana and codeine were found in his body, a toxicology test revealed. He was 40-years-old when he died. Chris's final resting place is the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California next to his father, director Leo Penn.
